Yippee!! We have SNOW!

Yes, the inner child in me is doing somersaults!  Having grown up in Cornwall I can only recall two experiences of a decent amount of snow fall in my childhood.  Now we live a bit further up the SW 'leg' of England - close to Wales, we are sometimes 'lucky' enough to have a scattering.

Yesterday, warnings of hazardous conditions ( I do smile when England grinds to a hault with a bit of snow!) meant that no-one was able to leave our home for work or school.

YIPPEE!  I had a bonus day of my family being at home and a good splattering of at least 20cm depth of snow!

We did short bursts of snow fun,

Throwing snow balls - ducking and dodging round the garden

...only then to come in and warm by the fire with hot chocolate.

Snowmen were designed and fashioned from the powdery stuff.  Billy struggles that bit more than his big sis in the snow.  He feels cold and wet more quickly and gets frustrated when the snow doesn't form his snowman face how he wants it to.  Bless him.

With a little help Mr Snowman took shape...

Ruby had to have a quick trouser change as she just couldn't bend down easily enough in her first pair to sculpt her snowman exactly how she wanted to!!

Then we went stomping through the snow on the newly purchased sled.  Major brownie points for Me who got it on Wednesday when we were warned the snow may come.  Essential milk, bread and chocolate were purchased and then the trek back up hill... to home.

So at present the snow is an exiting novelty in our little lives.  We will enjoy it, play in it.... and in a couple of days wish it to go!

Hope you are all managing to keep warm and having some childish fun this weekend!

    1. Oh thanks Deb. Hmmm... I think I'd be like you if we lived with it all the time. It lasted for 3 days with us. Enough to be a fun novelty, have an extra day at home and then it all returns to normal. Wrap up warm and we're thinking of you! J9 x

  3. Goodness, your children are beautiful! Love that red hair!

I'm so glad you got some snow - we get so much here that I forget what a rarity it is for some! And all children should be able to experience the magic of playing in the snow.

Welcome to blogging and I'm so glad to meet you. Thanks so much for joining in this week and come back again!

    1. Oh thank you Claudia. They are my pride and joy. You are right - it's so unusual for us to get it that it sparks such excitement - in all of us!! It makes you feel like you were 5 again! J9 x

  4. Look at Ruby's red hair - so beautiful! I'm with Deb...in Canada and not a big fan of snow. We don't get to shut things down when there's snow because it's just a part of life. We do have the odd "snow day" when schools are closed and then it's wonderful.

    1. Oh thank you - the rarity means it's so novel! 3 days and it was gone - I can't imagine having snow for months of the year. It's beautiful to look at but must be so cold. I loved it because we were all at home for an extra day - but if it was normal we'd have to adapt and that wouldn't happen I guess - not so much fun! J9 x

    1. It's beautiful isn't it. If you ask her what colour her hair is she says 'red', if you ask her what colour her daddy's hair is she says 'ginger'. Love it. She is constantly told at home how gorgeous it is as unfortunately, because it's different, children can be cruel. J9 x

  6. Snow can be fun. We have snow too, and it is very cold. I went for a walk this morning and slipped. Nothing happened, in 30 years my hip will break. :-) I love your daughter's red hair. One of my sons has red hair too. It's very seldom here. :-)

  8. Your children are so cute! If it snowed where I live I'd be out there playin' too, but no hope of that happening. I think winter wouldn't bother me so much if it snowed. It looks so beautiful in the pics and I am quite partial to the UK countryside. I love watching 'escape to the country' a UK show and never miss an episode!! take care, Maryann

    1. Ah, I know the programme! It's rare for us to get snow in these parts though! Bet you get more sunshine than us - which anyone would love! J9 x

  9. Hello Janine!
You came to my mind this evening, and I realized I hadn't been over here for awhile to see what you're up to, and I find you in the snow! I love your photos of the kids sledding down the street. We used to live in a neighborhood where we could do that, but no longer :/ I posted some (sunny) snowy pictures today too. I've enjoyed looking through your last several posts! Have a good week :)
